Memorial Day Weekend will mark the 42nd anniversary of the Official Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair and the grounds are sure to be packed with attendees excited to view and purchase some of the best art created in the State of Texas.

The Fair’s producer, the Texas Arts and Crafts Educational Foundation’s mission is to promote appreciation of fine arts and craft skills and create educational opportunities in the visual and creative arts in Texas. In addition to professional artists, the Fair is the home of the Emerging Texas Artist Scholarship Program, which provides a venue for college-level student artists to show and sell their work, as well as compete for scholarship funds for continuing education.

The newest program to become part of the Texas State Arts & Crafts Fair is the Young Texas Artist K-12 Art Competition. The program gives Texas students in grades K-12 the opportunity to submit pieces of original artwork to be accepted as part of the Fair. Three winning pieces from each grade level will be displayed prominently for all to enjoy!

The exhibited art and educational programs are only part of the experience: demonstrators will be packed into the park to give attendees a chance to view artists in action. In some instances attendees will even have the opportunity to get hands-on experience! For example, the Hill Country Turners will be on-site using a variety of lathes to craft pieces, from wooden tops to wooden cowboy hats; attendees will get the chance to try out a pedal lathe and turn their own hand-crafted wooden top!

As usual, in addition to the visual art, attendees will be able to take advantage of the Fair’s beautiful grounds to relax under the pavilion or the amphitheater and listen to the constant musical entertainment and enjoy a snack from the food court.

Advance motel reservations are highly recommended as all accommodations are filled on the weekend of the event. For area motel accommodation information call 1-800-221-7958 or visit the website of the Kerrville Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.
